Last year, the Tennessee Titans re-signed wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins to a three-year, $7.2 million extension.
On Wednesday, the Titans placed the five-year veteran on waivers.
Hawkins, a fourth-round draft pick in 2008, caught 47 of his 71 career passes in 2011 just before the Titans gave him an extension. With Tennessee drafting Justin Hunter in the second round, the writing was on the wall for Hawkins, who playing time last year dwindled with him being a healthy scratch for much of the season.
The Titans also waived receiver Michael Calvin and safety Suaesi Tuimaunei, both of whom had signed futures contracts in January.
