Though it's early, the Texans' coaching staff appears at least somewhat impressed with rookie quarterback Tom Savage.

Savage, a fourth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, participated in Houston's rookie minicamp, with coach Bill O'Brien getting his first look at him in a practice setting.

“He (Savage) was alert and focused and I think he went out there today and had a decent start to what hopefully is a long career for him,” O'Brien told reporters.

Savage will have to earn a starting spot, though his competition doesn't appear as stiff as other teams around the league. He'll battle T.J. Yates, Case Keenum and Ryan Fitzpatrick for the job.
