Tight end Tony Gonzalez still has enough left in the tank to make a return in 2014.
But he won't.
At the end of this season, Gonzalez will hang up the cleats and not change his mind, like he did during the offseason when he thought he was done. These will be his final two games of his career.
“I absolutely could [return],” Gonzalez said, via the Bay Area News Group. “But it’s the end of the road for me. I put everything out there and I’m completely satisfied. I don’t have any regrets and I look forward to what’s next.”
Gonzalez is one of the most accomplished tight ends to ever play in the NFL. He came back this year with hopes of finally getting to the Super Bowl. He won't, as the Falcons have had a dismal season.
But he'll leave behind a long legacy for fans in Kansas City and Atlanta to remember.
