Trent Richardson surprised by trade
Trent Richardson was listening to the radio when a piece of news caught his ear.
He'd been traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round pick. It was shocking, considering Richardson was drafted by the Browns a year ago as the third overall pick. The previous Cleveland front office even moved up a spot to grab him.
But with CEO Joe Banner and general manager Michael Lombardi in town, the Browns have apparently decided to build from the ground up beginning in next year's draft.
Those plans do not include Richardson.
“I can’t believe it, I didn’t see it coming from anywhere," Richardson said in an interview with TV station 19 Action News in Cleveland. I had a good relationship with everybody. But I guess it’s the best move for the Browns. At the end of the day it’s the best move for both of us, I guess. I wanted to be a Brown, I didn’t see it coming, but at the same time, I’m a Colt now, so now I’ve got to move on and get ready for Sunday’s game.”
A year ago, no one could have anticipated that the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft (Andrew Luck) would wind up handing the ball off to the No. 3 overall pick (Richardson) in the same backfield on Sundays.
