Just as the Johnny Manziel momentum approaches new heights, a bit of reality has struck the rookie quarterback.
On Thursday, Browns coach Mike Pettine said that Manziel will probably not take first-team reps when Cleveland opens its preseason against the Lions this Saturday.
"I think we're going to let Brian (Hoyer) go," Pettine told reporters, via the Akron Beacon Journal. "The circumstances could change that, obviously, but for this game, I think we'll stick to the units as we've practiced. So Brian with the ones and Johnny with the twos."
So there's that. But that doesn't mean Manziel will stay with the twos all throughout the preseason. With Manziel coming on in practice lately, you can bet the coaching staff will want at least a look of Manziel running with the first team.
Therefore, all eyes will be positioned on the Aug. 18 preseason contest against Washington, to see whether Manziel gets a shot with the ones.
