The Minnesota Vikings have declared star running back Adrian Peterson out for their regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions.
Peterson has groin and foot injuries.
"If we felt like he was ready, he'd be out there," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told reporters.
Peterson rushed for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He said before the season he wanted to become the first player to rush for 2,500 yards, but fell well short of that lofty goal.
Toby Gerhart is out with a hamstring injury, so Matt Asiata will start.
Asiata rushed for three touchdowns on 30 carries for 51 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.
