Mike Priefer, the special teams coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, sent a not-so-subtle message to Chris Kluwe.
But Priefer figures it’s not going to reach home with Kluwe.
The Vikings punter was fined $5,250 by the NFL for a uniform violation after he places a piece of tape with the message “VOTE RAY GUY” on the Pro Football Hall of Fame patch that was on his jersey in last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Kluwe has been outspoken about Guy needing to be selected to the Hall of Fame and he’s attacked Hall of Fame voters using his personal Twitter account. Kluwe took a very public stance in support of gay marriage during the election season as well.
"I don't even want to talk about it," Priefer said, according to Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Those distractions are getting old for me, to be honest with you. Does Ray Guy deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? Absolutely. But there are other ways to go about doing it, in my opinion."
Has he mentioned all this to Kluwe?
“No,” Priefer said. “He won't listen. To me, it's getting old. He's got to focus on punting and holding.”
Punters and kickers are imminently replaceable. Kluwe might want to take the advice of the coach here and tone his act down a little.
