Vontae Davis is getting a challenge for his starting cornerback job with the Miami Dolphins, says the Palm Beach Post.

Free agent pickup Richard Marshall has been playing at cornerback in the Dolphins base defense with Davis coming in in the nickel package. Sean Smith has been locked into the other starting cornerback spot.

“Nobody has a spot locked up,” Davis said. “Training camp, you got to come in, work hard. It’s a new year. Everybody’s spot’s open on the team.”

Meanwhile, at the quarterback position, David Garrard continues to gain in reps in his battle with Matt Moore and first-round pick Ryan Tannehill.
