Washburn: Haynesworth wanted to be richest guy in the world

Former Tennessee Titans defensive line coach Jim Washburn, now an assistant with the Detroit Lions, made a guest appearance on Nashville's 102.5 FM The Game Monday morning and was asked about his former pupil Albert Haynesworth.

Washburn was discussing Haynesworth and what motivated him and told the station that the defensive tackle said, "I want to be the richest guy in the world."

Haynesworth played his best football in a contract year of 2007 and again in 2008 when he was franchised, but playing with a promise from then-Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt that he would not be franchised a second straight year.

Haynesworth then left the Titans for a $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins, but bounced from there and finished his career in Tampa Bay and New England, finishing up in 2001 as back problems helped to curtail his career.

The candid Washburn also told the show that he didn't fully appreciate his former boss Jeff Fisher until after Washburn departed for Philadelphia and Fisher had left Tennessee after the 2010 season.

"I didnt appreciate Fisher until I left but he is a damn good coach. ... He got tired of the long distance battle," Washburn said, in an obvious reference to Titans owner Bud Adams running the team from Houston.
