Week 13 fantasy waiver wire recommendations

Before we dive into our new recommendations, here’s a quick rundown on some key players who appeared on last week’s list, all of whom are worth owning at the moment.

Bryce Brown, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: His 178-yard, two-touchdown debut was magic for several owners who needed a Monday night miracle, but take note that Brown’s role will be reduced once LeSean McCoy returns from a concussion suffered in Week 11.

Cecil Shorts, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars: He’s found the end zone six times this season, including once in each of his last three starts. I know it’s the Jags, but Shorts is definitely worthy of a roster spot as a WR3 in leagues with ten or more teams.

Beanie Wells, RB, Arizona Cardinals: Wells admitted after Sunday’s game that he’s not in top football shape at the moment, but the former Buckeye still rolled up 48 rushing yards and two scores on 17 carries this past weekend. There’s some upside here as we enter the home stretch.

Ryan Broyles, WR, Detroit Lions: After catching a career-high six passes for 126 yards on Thanksgiving against Houston, there’s a good chance Broyles could assume the No. 2 WR spot in Detroit, which is currently held by Titus Young. The rookie’s stock is rising.

SET FOR A RETURN?

DeMarco Murray, RB, Dallas Cowboys: While there are no guarantees in this business, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones said on Monday that he feels more confident than in previous weeks that Murray will be back on the field this weekend. The former Oklahoma standout has missed the last six games with a sprained foot.

Darren McFaddenICONLooks like McFadden owners may be able to breathe a little easier this weekend.

Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders: Run DMC’s teammates expect him back for Oakland’s Week 13 matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Take note that McFadden has not played since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 9. Also note that the stock of Marcel Reece—who has filled in admirably over the last few weeks—is about to take a serious hit.

Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: MJD has been battling a foot injury and is not expected to play in Week 13. And now that third-stringer Jalen Parmele is fighting a leg injury of his own, it looks like Rashad Jennings is heading back to the starting rotation.

Michael Vick, QB, Philadelphia Eagles: It looks like Vick will return to practice this week after suffering a concussion against the Cowboys back in Week 10. However, there are no guarantees that he will play in Week 13, or at any point after that. With Philly’s season in the toilet, the Birds could always choose to stick with rookie Nick Foles for the remainder of the year.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos: A big swing and a miss on rookie Ronnie Hillman, as it was announced last Sunday morning that Knowshon Moreno would get the start for the Broncos in Week 12. The Georgia product amassed 111 total yards on 24 touches and should continue to handle the workload in Willis McGahee’s absence.

Colin Kaepernick, QB, San Francisco 49ers: Sorry, Alex Smith. But it looks like your time as San Francisco’s starting quarterback is pretty much over. Kaepernick is now 2-0 as a starter for the Niners, accounting for 231 passing yards, 27 rushing yards and two total touchdowns at New Orleans on Sunday. Consider him a QB2 with starter upside for the rest of the way out.

David Wilson, RB, New York Giants: We’re not expecting a whole lot here, but with Andre Brown done for the season with a broken leg, Ahmad Bradshaw owners should protect their investment by acquiring the rookie from Virginia Tech. Wilson is now just one play away from becoming an NFL starting running back.

New York Jets, D/ST: They’re coming off extra rest and have a Week 13 home date with an Arizona Cardinals offense that hasn’t scored more than 20 points in a game since September 30.

New England Patriots, D/ST: Extra rest, along with the fact that Bill Belichick will take on rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the first time in his career on Sunday. Miami is averaging just 15.3 points per game over their last four outings with eight turnovers in their last three games.

Mohamed Sanu, WR, Cincinnati Bengals: Don’t look now, but the rookie from Rutgers has found the end zone four times over his last three games and is coming off a career-high nine-target, five-reception performance against the Oakland Raiders. Consider Sanu a WR3/4 moving forward.
