Week 13 fantasy waiver wire recommendations

Bye week: Finally over!

Montee Ball, RB, Denver Broncos (at Kansas City, owned in 50% of Yahoo! leagues): Has carried the ball just 15 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns over the last two weeks, but Ball’s workload could be headed for a drastic increase following the injury to starting RB Knowshon Moreno (significant bone bruise on right leg) Sunday night at New England. Reports out of Denver indicate that Moreno is “questionable at best” to face a Chiefs defense that is down Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

Michael Crabtree, WR, San Francisco 49ers (vs. St. Louis, owned in 32% of Yahoo! leagues): We’ve been hyping Crabtree’s return for weeks now, so I’m assuming most of you have already added the San Fran wide receiver to your roster. And those who had the foresight to do so will begin reaping the rewards as early as Sunday, as Crabtree has been activated and is expected to make his 2013 debut this weekend.

Benny Cunningham, RB, St. Louis Rams (at San Francisco, owned in 5% of Yahoo! leagues): Amassed a career-high 13 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Bears while filling in for an injured Zac Stacy (head injury). No word on whether or not Stacy will be ready to go in Week 13 at San Francisco, but Cunningham’s worth an add for RB-hungry owners who can’t grab Montee Ball off waivers.

Carson Palmer, QB, Arizona Cardinals (at Philadelphia, owned in 40% of Yahoo! leagues): During the Cardinals’ current four-game winning streak, Palmer thrown eight touchdown passes while averaging a healthy 286.5 passing yards per game. What’s even more amazing is that after tossing 15 interceptions through his first nine games of the season, Palmer hasn’t been picked off in either of his last two starts. Look for another strong outing Sunday against an Eagles defense that has surrendered an average of 22.9 fantasy points per game to opposing signal-callers this season (seventh-most in NFL).

Nate Burleson, WR, Detroit Lions (vs. Green Bay, owned in 25% of Yahoo! leagues): Has been out since late September due to a car crash caused by a pizza (seriously, you can’t make this stuff up, people), but retuned to the gridiron in Week 12 to catch seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown on ten targets. Worth an immediate add as well consideration for the starting lineup as a WR3.

Michael CrabtreeAfter 12 weeks, it looks like wide receiver Michael Crabtree is finally ready to return to action.

Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots (at Houston, owned in 6% of Yahoo! leagues): Carried the rock a season-high 13 times for 58 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Denver after starter Stevan Ridley once again fumbled away the football. The New England backfield has been a revolving door this season, but Bolden is now worthy of a roster spot after stepping up big for a player currently residing in head coach Bill Belichick’s doghouse.

Tiquan Underwood, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Carolina, owned in 2% of Yahoo! leagues): He’s not a high-volume receiver, but Underwood has found the end zone in two of his last four appearances and is coming off a season-high stat line consisting of three receptions for 108 yards and two scores against the Detroit Lions. Underwood’s stock is relatively low for Tampa’s Week 13 showdown with the Carolina Panthers, but owners in leagues with more than 12 teams should consider this guy worthy of a roster spot.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Tennessee Titans (at Indianapolis, owned in 9% of Yahoo! leagues): Fitzpatrick has thrown five touchdown passes while averaging 268.6 yards per game over the last three weeks and is coming off a season-high 320-yard, 2-touchdown effort Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Let’s be clear and state that Fitzpatrick isn’t going to win you a fantasy championship, but he makes for a solid QB2 in leagues with ten or more teams and can function nicely in leagues that start two signal-callers.

Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots (at Houston, owned in 40% of Yahoo! leagues): The consistency factor here is relatively low, but when quarterback Tom Brady needed to dig out of a 24-0 hole vs. Denver in Week 12, he turned to Edelman, who caught nine passes on 11 targets for 110 yards and two scores. Consider the five-year veteran a WR3/4 for owners in leagues with 12 or more teams.

Mike Glennon, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Carolina, owned in 20% of Yahoo! leagues): Week 13 may not be the best time to ride with the rookie from N.C. State, but take note that Glennon has been coming on strong as of late. The Tampa signal-caller has thrown two touchdown passes in three of his last four starts, has tossed just one interception over his last six outings and is completing a very respectable 62.5% of his passes on the season. Glennon is considered a QB2 for owners in leagues with 12 or more teams.

Jacoby Jones, WR, Baltimore Ravens (vs. Pittsburgh, owned in 12% of Yahoo! leagues): Even with the high-priced Joe Flacco struggling at quarterback, Jones caught four passes on six targets for a season-high 103 yards and one touchdown against a solid New York Jets defense on Sunday. Consistency will be an issue, but Jones is worthy of a roster spot as a WR4 in leagues with 12 or more teams.

Graham Gano, K, Carolina Panthers (vs. Tampa Bay, owned in 18% of Yahoo! leagues): A kicker! After a slow start to the season, Gano has buried ten field goals over his last six starts and is now six for six from 50+ yards in 2013. Those who own kickers like Phil Dawson, Alex Henery or Greg Zuerlein should take a good, long look at Gano, as he’s outscoring each of those players this season.

Buffalo Bills, D/ST (vs. Atlanta, owned in 20% of Yahoo! leagues): Are coming off the bye to face a dismal Atlanta Falcons team that is averaging just 14.8 points per game over their last five starts. Take note that during that same time frame, the Falcons have committed a staggering 13 turnovers.
