Receiver's contract is up, but could find New England still best fit. Terry McCormick
Wes Welker will be free to sign a new contract with any team beginning tomorrow.
But Sports Illustrated's Peter King believes that Welker just might stay put and return to the Patriots.
Welker was franchised last year by the Pats, who declined to do so a second time around. That will give Welker a chance to test the market, but he has become a vital cog in the New England offense and a favorite target of QB Tom Brady.
Welker, perhaps realzing that he has it pretty good in Foxboro, could be staying put in the system and with the team that best fits his talents.
