Granted it would have been a tough catch, but even NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth said it was a catch Wes Welker makes 100 times out of 100.
“We had an opportunity. The ball is right there," Welker said. "I just have to make the play. It’s a play I’ve made 1,000 times. Then, in the biggest moment of my life, I don’t come up with it. It’s discouraging.”
“It hit me right in the hands," he added. "It’s a play I never drop, I always make. In the most critical situation, I let the team down.”
Welker's drop helped to stall out a drive where the Patriots were trying to protect the lead and kill the clock. Instead, it led to a game-winning and championship-winning drive by Eli Manning and the Giants, denying the Patriots revenge for a Super Bowl loss to New York four years ago.

*stuff* happens. Hard to blame one guy on one play. Welker's just bein' a stand up guy...like his QB should be...team sport...team game...team loss.
Sloppy, but entertaining game.
I never thought I would ever utter these words (or type), but Eli Manning outplayed Tom Brady yesterday and that is the biggest difference and why the Giants won. I don't know why so many people are afraid to say Brady played poorly, but the excuses and the blame going on his WR's after the game are ridiculous.
Brady's safety was absolutely a horrendous play on his part. There is simply no excuse for that throw.
The int was also completely on him. He hung that ball up and allowed the defender to make the play.
The throw to Welker was also horrible. He not only was inaccurate and forced a receiver running at full speed to try and make a back shoulder catch, but he had ample time to make it a much safer/higher precentage throw and that what was so surprising. It was so unlike Brady to seem rushed when he didn't have to be and that mistake was a killer. BTW, I'm not saying Welker couldn't have caught the ball, he could have and as good as he has been in his career you actually expect him to make that difficult catch. But the fact is it was a very difficult catch to come down with and I would bet a lot of money that if Brady had put the ball in a better spot (and the number of better spots are numerous) Welker makes the catch.
Brady is one of the best ever in my opinion, but he is far from perfect and makes mistakes in every game he plays as all QB's do. I just hate the fact that no in the national media seems to have the stones to come out and say "Brady played poorly and that is why the Patriots lost".
This is absolute crap. You can't blame Welker for a dropped pass or even Brady for throwing it a little off. This is the Superbowl, people make mistakes and that's why people watch. For those who think Brady played bad what would you know? 2 touchdown passes in 2 perfect drives isn't bad. Sure he got called for intentional grounding on the safety but he bounced back when his team needed him. The interception throw to Gronkowski was just a good play from the linebacker marking him. Had it been a healthy Gronkowski im sure that never would have happened. The only problems with either team was the defense when it counted. both the Patriots and the Giants defense were horrendous when all the major plays were concerned. A couple of lucky breaks and some good plays let the Giants pull a win. Get over it because they deserved it for coming up when it mattered the most. Both teams played well but this is football, there has to be a winner so congrats to the Giants.
