DSan Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is regarded as the frontrunner for the Detroit Lions' head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN.

Whisenhunt played for the Washington Redskins with Lions general manager Martin Mayhew for two seasons.

Whisenhunt is in demand because he's also regarded as a top candidate for the Redskins, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.

Whisenhunt was 45-51 in six seasons as the Arizona Cardinals' head coach.

Whisenhunt has helped Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers have a turnaround season.

The Lions have also interviewed Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell, who's interviewing for the Redskins job today.
