Will Flacco become NFL’s highest-paid player?

Joe Flacco's performance in the playoffs and in Super Bowl XLVII certainly made the free agent-to-be a lot of money as he readies for his next contract.

The question is exactly how much money. Flacco's resume certainly got a boost by leading the Baltimore Ravens to a championship and winning the Super Bowl MVP Award in the process. Now, as Flacco's rookie contract is set to expire, his agent, Joe Linta, believes Flacco deserves to be paid like the elite quarterbacks of the NFL and even become the league's highest paid player.

Peyton Manning is at $18 million per season in Denver, and Drew Brees signed a deal that averages $20 million per year to stay in New Orleans. So what is Flacco worth, given that he has led his team to the postseason in each of his five years at the helm and now has a Super Bowl ring to boot.

“When you do a contract of this magnitude, you look at what is the player's body of work presently,” Linta told CNBC. “And what are the expectations going forward over the next four, five or six years.

“Joe wins on both accounts.”
