Miami jumps to top of the list with hiring of Philbin as head coach. Terry McCormick
With the hiring of Joe Philbin as the Miami Dolphins head coach comes the promise that the offense will have more of an up-tempo flair to it than in the past.
The speculation now begins, as the Miami Herald points out, that the Dolphins will target Green Bay backup Matt Flynn, who can be a free agent on March 13. Flynn has only seen limited duty behind Aaron Rodgers, but threw a team record six TD passes against Detroit in the regular-season finale.
Going after Flynn makes more sense for the Dolphins than nearly anyone else, given the Philbin connection and the fact that both Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will be long gone in the draft by the time the Dolphins pick at eight or nine (depending on a coin flip with Carolina).

It would seem obvious that he will end up in Miami & i'd like to see Green Bay get a 2nd round pick for him, but nothing less than a 3rd. I just don't think Flynn is worth a 1st rounder & I also don't think that Flynn will ever be an elite qb. He reminds me a bit of Chad Pennington. He's intelligent, has a good but not great arm & he's a winner.
Maybe Flynn will go to Cleveland & Holmgren could trade down in the draft to get more talent. Flynn would also work well in Cleveland's version of the "Cincinnati Offense.' McCoy is not the answer.
Seattle also needs a qb & they certainly have ties to Green Bay to add them as another possibility.
I can't see Ted Thompson signing & then trading Flynn, as of now, but as long as Green Bay gets a great deal, that's all that matters.
/not an expert; )
That scenario makes perfect sense if you ignore the facts that fact that Flynn would never agree to that scenario, and his trade value is nowhere near the #9 pick,
The Pack should at least consider trading Rodgers and get a couple of no.1 picks and more for him and build around Flynn. With all the other holes they have and the quarterbacks being so well coached it is an alternative to be considered. Rodgers already has had a number of concussions and one more big hit could be the end for him - might as well get a lot while you can. The game against the Giants shows that Rodgers isn't the be all end all anyway.
Why stop there, sub? Miami might as well give up all of their picks for Flynn.
A second for Flynn, then a fourth for Driver, too. Veteran leadership.
After following up a superbol MVP with a league MVP season, Rodgers has one sub-perfect game and people suddenly think that any Joe off the treet could do what he does. FYI, Joe Montana lost a game every now and then too.
Also, not sure what you eman about green bay having so many holes they need to trade the best player in the league to gain picks. We're not talking about a Cleveland, or a Minnesota, or a Washington. This is the best team by far in the regular season this year. The only real hole they have is for a 2nd pass-rusher (and potentially a safety).
Obviously a 2nd round pick, #40-41 is easier to make the trade with MIA and it would still be a win for GB vs getting nothing. The 1st round pick may make sense because you take Flynn off the market so you can trade him to where he wants to go without others bidding for him. You sign him to a $5M/yr, which is a good deal for Flynn, a reasonable contract for MIA, and probably less than you'd have to pay for a QB with the #9 pick.
Yes, Flynn loses the chance to get more $$$, but how much more would he get? It's less risk to him playing Philbin's system that he already knows. If he goes to CLE, WAS, or NYJ for more $$$ and blows up like others have, he has more money but in my mind he loses.
It really gets down to if GB can sign him first and how much value Philbin places on Flynn.
Awesome story. I could have written the same after reading ESPN. Thanks.
Why would Flynn agree to anything less than the best deal he could get.?
You are wrong Sub. No one is going to buy that ocean front property you have in northern Wisconsin. Or at least you have a better chance of selling that than the Packers do of signing and trading Flynn. Most buyers do their research. It is called Due Diligence. So Miami knows that paying a few more $$ to Flynn is a better buy than handing over a draft pick as well as some $$$. Matt Flynn also knows that he will get more money from EVERYONE except the Packers and there is no reward for him being loyal to them just to obtain a draft pick.
maybe if you add a Boat to your property sale this might fly, er sail off into the deep.
Your opinion Papago, for what it's worth ... $.01. Not worth responding to other than that.

Said previously, I would love to see GB sign Flynn to a reasonable contract and then trade him to MIA for their #1 pick in 2012. If not, MIA will have to pay top dollar on the open market for him.
Having a former OC from your team as Head Coach who knows what Flynn is capable of makes this a much better possibility. Flynn is worth the #8-9 pick IMO.
I know the experts will follow this post with logic as to why this won't happen. They always do. :)
