Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty had a strong workout today at the NFL scouting combine.
His unofficial times in the 40-yard dash were 4.34 and 4.35 seconds.
His official time wound up being a 4.48, continuing the mystery at the combine between the scouts' hand times and the electronic times.
NFL teams use their own times.
McCourty did extremely well in the drills, according to a source, enough so that he's in the conversation as a late first-round draft pick.
He had 14 formal interviews with NFL teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and the San Diego Chargers.
"Aside from being a very good corner, he might be the best special-teams player in the whole draft from a return perspective, gunner, jammer, makes tackles," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said. "You get quite a package if you draft Devin.”
