The Jacksonville Jaguars landed a free agent prize, striking a deal with former Green Bay Packers pass rusher Aaron Kampman.

The free agent defensive end agreed to terms with the Packers after midnight, according to the Florida Times-Union.

Per the report, contract terms weren't known right away.

The Jaguars went after Kampman immediately.

They were in desperate need of a pass rush after finishing last in the NFL last season with a paltry 14 sacks.

Kampman, 30, tore his left anterior cruciate ligament and was limited to nine games and 3 1/2 sacks last season.

However, Kampman is expected to make a healthy return this season and provide the Jaguars' defense with toughness, instincts and some heat on opposing quarterbacks.

Who else was interested in Kampman?

According to the NFL rumor mill, the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were interested as well.

For his career, he has registered 54 sacks and 14 forced fumbles.

I'll admit it: my reaction is completely emotional. AK is such a great guy and player, and he was truly a player I was proud to have on the GBP as a fan. He was one of the players that contributed to the high-integrity, work-hard image of the GB Packers. I'll really miss him. I know he didn't like the 3-4, and I know he wasn't a good fit. The fan in me, however, was always hoping that we'd find a way to retain him, and he'd figure out his groove coming off the edge and covering. Oh well. Best of luck to him and his fam.

I second the good Admiral's comments. Best of luck to you, Aaron. Glad you won't be wearing black or purple this season.

I also agree, He was a great football player. But more importantly he was a great cook, helped around the house and never had to ask for directions. He could dance a polka, make great bounce passes and always wore his googles when working with wood. Best of luck Aaron.

Kampman was great Packer. But it was sad to see teams exploit his pass coverage skills last season. When he put his hand on the ground, he was a beast. The Jags got a very good 4-3 defensive end. I knew when the Packers tossed money toward Clifton but not Kampman his days were done in Green Bay. The Packers will need to acquire another OL this off-season.

Aaron Kampman with deservedly make the Packers Hall of Fame one day. It was too big of a gamble for Green Bay to sign him. I cannot recall any NFL player coming back to his old form in the first year after an ACL surgery. Kampman was injured in the second half of the year, leaving him less time to recover. Most likely he will have a mediocre year at best, which is something Green Bay could not risk given Kampman's demands and Green Bay's lofty goals.

Injuries are the bane of NFL players, though Kampman's new contract clearly will compensate him for his misfortune. Even for Kampman, money seems to be loyalty number one - not that I have a problem with that - family comes before work. It's ones definition of family that matters.

Zig - don't forget, he also always put the toilet seat down after tinkling. Class act all the way. Best of luck to you Mr. Kampman.

Amazing how Jacksonville can spend 2 first-round picks on Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves and still desperately need a DE. Maybe having Kampman around will help those guys to start playing up to their potential.

Like everyone said, great player, great motor & great person. Hopefully he can mentor Harvey & Groves cause they're following the same path as Gholston, Long, Carricker, Moss, Anderson, Crowder, Ellis, Dorsey & most other so called "pass rushers" that were drafted early & have done next to nothing.

Good luck Kampman!

The Packers have loss a great asset to their team. Kampman is a class act and one of the top pass rushers in the game right now. Good luck to Kampman.

Another EPIC FAIL for old Teddy boy. Lets one of the best player from the team walk away for absolutely nothing. Great nonmove their buddy. Maybe instead of franchising Pickett, you tag Kampman and trade him for something. May Kampman go on to tear it up next season and show the world how incompetent Tightwad Ted really is.

Hindsight would say that Ted should have traded him last year. No GM has that luxury, and while we all sensed that Kampy wasn't at all happy with the transition to a 3-4 OLB, we never really knew for sure, because he remained such a complete class act. He was not awful as a 3-4 OLB, but he never looked good in coverage. I think it was Lombardi that called him "Herman Munster" in space... Kinda mean, but not all that terrible of an analogy. To retain him as a 3-4 OLB would have not been wise when competing in a market where his 4-3 DE skills are, if anything, under-rated. I would take a healthy Aaron Kampman over a Julius Peppers every time.

Kudos to the Jags for taking a bit of a risk by signing him injured. The reports that I have seen have him well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation, so the "damaged goods" aspect of this acquisition have a real shot at being a non-factor. Even if he does wind up on the PUP list, I say you still got one hell of a deal. You need look no further than these posts by us Packer fans to realize just how well-liked and respected this man is.

I think I can speak for most Packer fans in stating that while we are all pretty much thrilled with our transition to the 3-4 defense, the situation that allowed Aaron Kampman to become a Jag would be our singular regret.

It isn't all that often that you will see a guy leave in free agency and receive pretty much universal praise from his former team, especially us way-wound-too-tight zealots in the land of cheese. We wish Aaron much success in Jacksonville, and I personally have no doubt that Jags fans will be absolutely thrilled with this football player.

Ted Thompson you sir SUCK! not only do you do nothing while every other team is improving...but then you lose a primire player such as Campman! I am so LKJI:F&O&{)&P*O&R off right now it isn't funny! Lombardi must be rolling over in his grave watching you ruin what was once the finest organization in the NFL. I just can't believe it! You must sell your (I forgot you don't have children do you) hmmmm...food for thought? If ever there was a person(and I use the term loosely) that should be shot or run out of town...it's you! I have been a Packer fan all of my life and when they hired you (it must have been after a drunken party) that was the sadest day in Packerland. How many birds nest between your ears anyway? must be a lot of room cause you sure as hell don't have any brains! why don't you go away? somewhere...anywhere...just go away! I hear they are looking for a GM in North korea....you'd fit right in with Kim whats his name! maybe the two of you could room together!

You got a great choice when you got Kampman. He is such an amazing talent. This will definitely make your defense better.
