Defensive back allegedly attacked cab driver Aaron Wilson
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib was charged with a misdemeanor count of battery today, a legal imbroglio stemming from an alleged incident where he's accused of hitting a cab driver.
Talib allegedly hit cab driver David Duggan during a taxi ride where Duggan was transporting Talib and two teammates on Aug 19.
According to assistant state attorney Richard Ripplinger, the blow was significant.
"It was pretty hard as it was described to us," Ripplinger said. "It hurt."
Talib has avoided a potential resisting arrest charge.
And he's still slated to travel to London to play against the New England Patriots.
"We were made aware the charges were going to be filed today and we will continue to monitor the situation and let the legal system run its course," team spokesman Jeff Kamis told the Tampa Tribune.
Talib has a history of violence.
He got into a fight with former teammate Cory Boyd at the NFL rookie symposium.
Earlier this year, Talib swung his helmet backward in an attempt to strike offensive tackle Donald Penn. However, he wound up hitting Torrie Cox and opening up a cut on his face that entailed stitches.
This past offseason, Talib swung his helmet in anger at teammate Donald Penn, accidentally striking cornerback Torrie Cox in the head. Cox sustained a gash that required stitches.
Talib apologized for his actions, but his maturity and judgment remain in question.
