Patriots quarterback slammed to turn by Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth Aaron Wilson
The New England Patriots aren't quite breathing a collective sigh of relief just yet following star quarterback Tom Brady being slammed to the ground by massive Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth on his right, throwing shoulder.
APThe Patriots are hoping that Brady's right shoulder is only bruised. It has been described as sore by team officials.
However, there are some encouraging signs that the injury might not be that serious.
Wide receiver Joey Galloway told Boston reporters afterward that he ran into Brady after the game.
“I said, ‘How are you doing?’ ” Galloway told me. “He said, ‘OK.’ And that was it.”
Plus, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco claims that he made an inquiry with Brady to get the scoop.
“Just got a call back from Tom Brady, says he’s fine and there’s nothing to worry about," Ochocinco wrote on his Twitter account.
After Haynesworth landed on him, Brady grimaced in pain and went to the sidelines. On the bench, he repeatedly windmilled his right arm without any apparent major discomfort.
Sometimes, a sore shoulder is just a sore shoulder.
And that's what the Patriots are counting on.
Obviously, it was painful enough that the Patriots took him out of the game after the hit. Or it may have just been a precautionary measure.
Brady had already had a great night, completing 12 of 19 passes for 150 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to Randy Moss.
Brady went out for the second half on the sideline before going back to the locker room.
Tight end Chris Baker helped Brady up after being knocked down by Haynesworth.
“Haynesworth is a big guy, so any time you take a hit from him you’re going to be a little slow to get up, but that was about it,’’ Baker told reporters. "Just any time you see your quarterback get hit you’re concerned or any of your guys on the ground. It was that.
"He’s a tough guy. I’ve seen him take hits before and obviously he gets back up. It was just one of those things where it was, ‘Let me go get him up and let’s get off the field.’ “He just got up and he was all right and he came to the sideline and that was about it."
Meanwhile, Haynesworth said he wasn't attempting to injure Brady.
"I mean, it wasn't like I was hitting Gisele or something; he's the quarterback. It was good, it was fine," Haynesworth told the Washington Post. "I mean, I was trying to tackle him, but I wasn't trying to hurt him. I'm not that type of a player, you know? I'm actually a big Tom Brady fan. I'm a big Patriots fan. I've always like the Patriots, I've always liked coach Belichick. I just like the way he is."
"I hope he's all right. If I had to hit him again, I would hit him again. That's my job, that's what they brought me here to do. But as far as trying to hurt somebody, I'm not trying to do that, especially that time, because I like that team."
Patriots coach Bill Belichick stuck with his usual policy of not saying much of anything about injuries when asked about Brady.
“I’m sure he has some bumps and bruises like everybody else who played in the game,’’ Belichick said.
The Patriots are crossing their fingers and hoping that's the case.
So far, there doesn't appear to be anything ominous about this Brady injury. Just a scare.

I hope and maybe I'll even pray that he is okay. I don't think I could take another season of cardiac football with a backup QB elevated to starter because Tom is rehabbing with Giselle.
