The Cleveland Browns have acquired Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Seneca Wallace via a trade.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns gave up a late-round 2011 draft pick in exchange for Wallace.

ESPN first reported the trade for the versatile reserve who played for Browns team president Mike Holmgren in Seattle.

The trade should rule out any remaining speculation about Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Troy Smith being on the Browns' radar. Smith's agent has been lobbying for a trade to Cleveland, which is Smith's hometown.

For his career, Wallace has passed for 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

That surprises me because I really thought Troy Smith might be a good addition on the cheap who has way more upside than Wallace.

This trade is for the short term only. Wallace is good enough to buy time until they figure out how to get a franchise QB.

Wallace isn't terrible by any stretch, and reminds me a bit of Doug Flutie, Fran Tarkenton, etc., decent arms, good scramblers, keeps a play alive. I don't think he'd be the worst QB we've ever had over the past 10 years, and the Browns might be able to use him like Michael Vick. The good thing is Holmgren knows him and knows what he can do. Could be a decent pick until we get a real QB, you know?
