The Cleveland Browns made it official, trading defensive lineman Corey Williams and their 2010 seventh-round draft choice to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the 2010 draft.
That selection is a pick obtained by Detroit from Denver.
Williams wasn't too happy during his tenure in Cleveland, or productive.
In 32 games, including 18 starts, he registered 88 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
The Browns announced that they have stockpiled 11 picks in this year's draft, nine during the first five rounds.

I think Ted did fine with Corey Williams. He got a second rounder, the Pack still has a decent d-line rotation, and Williams wasn't cut out to be effective in a 3-4 defense, as evidenced by his stay in Cleveland. Uncle Teddy knew that and got rid of him before he had lost trade value.
I wish I could say the same about A. Kampman.
The guy's lazy and still trying to live off the numbers he put up getting single-blocked in GB alongside Jenkins, Kampman, a then-relevant KGB, etc. The knock on the guy was that he'd shut it down as soon as he got his contract and from appearances that's exactly what he's done. You can make gains by adding positives (picks) and by removing negatives (burdensome contracts to overpaid underachievers.) In this case Thompson did both simultaneously. In what universe is that a mistake?

While I think Ted Thompson erred in not signing him during the season a few years ago, he ended up getting a 2nd rounder for him and he has proceeded to not do much for the Browns and now could only fetch a 5th round pick.
