The Cleveland Browns have been absolved by the NFL following a review of how rookie running back James Davis injured his shoulder, ending his season.

"After reviewing video of the practice session and interviewing Cleveland Browns players, coaches and team staff, the NFL determined the injury sustained by running back James Davis occurred in a controlled environment and the Browns did not violate any league policies," an NFL spokesman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

ESPN reported that Davis tore the labrum in his shoulder when fully-padded linebacker Blake Costanzo hit Davis, who wasn't wearing pads at the time.

However, Costanzo didn't have pads on, according to the report.

Browns coach Eric Mangini had repeatedly expressed confidence that the team hadn't done anything wrong, saying, "We feel good about where we're at."
