The Cleveland Browns made it official today, cutting ties with wide receiver Donte' Stallworth.

The move had been forecasted for quite a while.

He was due a $1 million roster bonus on March 20, but the Browns didn't hesitate as they released him on the first day that teams can cut players after the season.

The team announced the move minutes ago in a one-line press release, affirming that they have terminated Stallworth's contract.

Stallworth was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Aug. 13 after issuing a guilty plea for a second-degree felony (DUI manslaughter) for hitting and killing a construction worker named Mario Reyes on March 14 of last year.

Goodell said he has met with Stallworth and is encouraged by his progress.

"I wanted to see how he was doing, what he has focused on during his time away from the game," Goodell said. "And I think he's in a better place than he was. I think he recognizes what he did and I think he's prepared for getting back. So he will be reinstated after the Super Bowl."

Too bad the guy he killed can't be reinstated. It's not for any of us to forgive this guy or give him a second chance. It's for the family of the man he killed by getting behind the wheel drunk.

DUI - a horrible horrible crime that is inexcusable because it is so easily preventable.

While what Stallworth did was horrible. I disagree that it is up to the family to forgive him. While their forgiveness would be nice and honorable given what he did, it really up to his "creator" to forgive him if he is truly rependant.
