Linebacker out for season with neck injury Aaron Wilson
Cleveland Browns linebacker Eric Barton's season is over, the team confirmed today.
Barton suffered a season-ending neck injury that may require surgery to address a bulging disc.
“I feel bad for Eric because I know how much passion he has for the game and what it means to him," Browns coach Eric Mangini said in a statement released tonight. "His ability to run the defense and allow those around him to play better will be greatly missed.”
The Browns signed running back Thomas Brown to the practice squad and cut wide receiver Darnell Jenkins.
In eight starts, Barton led the Browns with 58 tackles to go with two pass deflections and one fumble recovery.
It's a significant blow to a Browns defense that already ranks last in the league in total defense.
