Injured linebacker might be moving on Aaron Wilson
Like a sad country song, Keith Bulluck seems resigned to his belief that his time in Nashville is coming to a close.
The veteran Tennessee Titans linebacker's contract is up.
He's recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
And he's convinced that the Titans won't be signing him to a new deal.
So, he told the Tennessean that he's pretty sure he's played his final down in a Titans uniform.
“I think so,’’ Bulluck said.. “I would like to stay here for sure, but I think so. It sure seems that way.’’
Bulluck said he hasn't heard from the Titans since the season ended.
He joked that perhaps the Titans are already at the NFL scouting combine looking for his replacement.
Bulluck emphasized that he's not angry with the Titans, though.
He understands that this is part of the business.
“I have seen guys who have been figureheads here being released,’’ Bulluck said. “I prepared myself over the years for this, because I knew at some point my time would come. My time is here now. …
"I have appreciated this organization for giving me the opportunity -- 29 other teams passed over me. I made the most of my opportunity here, so we’ll see what happens."
TItans coach Jeff Fisher said that it's not necessarily a case of a closed door for Bulluck.
He acknowledged, though, that it won't be a simple decision.
“We’d like to try and create some opportunity where Keith can finish his career with us,’’ Fisher said. "Regardless of whether there’s been serious discussions or not, that is the sentiment of the organization.
"It is complicated, and it is a different situation. He had a serious knee injury that he is rehabbing and is working very hard at, so there are other factors there.’’
Of course, Bulluck isn't healthy enough presently to sign with a team and pass an NFL physical.
He expressed confidence that he could be ready to play by August.
Bulluck will likely have to be patient as he rehabs his knee and waits for someone to take a chance on an established player coming off a serious injury.
