INDIANAPOLIS -- Clemson running back C.J. Spiller accelerated out of his stance, bolting upfield at Lucas Oil Stadium.

When NFL scouts' stopwatches ticked off as he crossed the finish line, his unofficial time was a blazing 4.37 seconds.

Spiller is regarded as a first-round talent, and may have cemented his status with a strong NFLscouting combine.

He has drawn comparisons to New Orleans Saints all-purpose back Reggie Bush.

"Everybody’s going to compare me to whoever," Spiller said. "Like I tell people all the time, every running back is different. I can’t go to an organization and try to be Reggie Bush. It’s just not going to happen. The only thing I can do is just try to go be C.J. Spiller. It’s great to be in that company. Reggie Bush has done a phenomenal job while he’s been in the NFL. Even to be mentioned in that company is a humbling experience for me."

Spiller wasn't the only fast running back.

Cal-Berkeley standout Jahvid Best, another possible first-rounder, clocked an even better time with a 4.35 showing.

And Fresno State runner Ryan Matthews, who could sneak into the first round as well, ran better than expected with a 4.45, which should boost his draft stock.

Ole Miss' Dexter McCluster, one of the more versatile runners available, ran a 4.58. And USC runner Joe McKnight was below 4.5 with a 4.49 clocking.

Stanford running back opened up some eyes with his 4.53 time.
