Athleticism was on display Monday at the NFL scouting combine, particularly when the linebackers hit the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Mississippi State linebacker Jamar Chaney, who was the South Defensive Most Valuable Player at the Senior Bowl, clocked the fastest 40-yard dash time with a 4.54 clocking, a showing just ahead of Florida State linebacker Dekoda Watson's 4.56.

Chaney missed the 2008 season with a broken leg, but the 6-foot-1, 241-pounder started 39 career games. He also bench presssed 225 pounds 26 times and turned in a 39-inch vertical leap.

Chaney did a lot to help his stock with an impressive workout.

Meanwhile, versatile Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon bench pressed 225 pounds 34 times. Only Washington's Donald Butler (35 reps) topped Weatherspoon.

Weatherspoon and Watson also turned in 40-inch vertical leaps.

Keenan Clayton (Oklahoma) posted a 41 1/2 inch vertical leap to pace the linebackers.
