Wilson: Chiefs, Johnson working on a settlement

Following running back Larry Johnson being given a two- week suspension by the Kansas City Chiefs for a series of controversial remarks, Johnson's agent said that he's discussing a potential settlement with the AFC West franchise.

That coincides with a plan to file a grievance against the team.

"Working on grievance and settlement," said Peter Schaffer, Johnson's agent, in an e-mail to the National Football Post.

If the suspension is upheld, Johnson would lose more than $600,000 in lost wages.

The suspension ends Nov. 9, the day after the Chiefs' road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Following the suspension, Schaffer said Wednesday night that he planned to file an appeal.

"We respect the Chiefs’ right to impose discipline on their team, but it's our belief that the discipline they’ve imposed on Larry isn’t allowed under the CBA," Schaffer said. "And, if it is, then it's greater than warranted by the actions. It’s our hope that we can resolve this with the team prior to the hearing. If not, then whatever the arbitrator says we will comply with it."
