In the wake of the Kansas City Chiefs' decision to cut ties with controversial running back Larry Johnson  this week, the AFC West franchise had a lot to contemplate on this one.

According to Nancy Gay of AOL Sports FanHouse, the Chiefs were concerned that cutting Johnson might deliver an unwanted message to Johnson as well as any other players prone to bad behavior that they could usher in their departure through being disruptive.

"We didn't want to make an example of this player for all the wrong reasons," a team source told FanHouse. "There was nothing to be gained by keeping him here. Nothing but more distractions and problems. Enough was enough."

And now Johnson remain in job-hunting mode after clearing waivers Tuesday. No one seems to be in a rush to sign the former NFL rushing champion.
