Chargers cornerback under investigation Aaron Wilson
According to San Diego police investigating the champagne bottle incident that allegedly hit someone in the head, San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie is the subject of the investigation.
Per the report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, police detective Gary Hassen said that Cromartie is saying the bottle "slipped out of his hand."
Could an assault with a deadly weapon investigation be reduced to some lesser charge?
Perhaps, if police accept Cromartie's explanation.
There have been a lot of conflicting statements, so that could influence whether charges are formally filed.
At this point, Cromartie remains a suspect.
Ironically on his Twitter account, @crimetime31, Cromartie wrote last night: "ok charger fans we have made it home safely. Thank you for your prayers, God bless."
What would the fans be praying about?
According to the report, Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper was at Bar West, where the alleged incident took place.
The investigation will be turned over to prosecutors later today.
General manager A.J. Smith is undoubtedly displeased following another off-field incident involving one of his key players. The Chargers have yet to comment on the situation.
