Miami Dolphins veteran nose guard Jason Ferguson is out for the season with a quadriceps injury, coach Tony Sparano announced today.
The Dolphins plan to shuffle in Randy Starks and Tony McDaniel behind new starter Paul Soliai.
“Very confident in what those players can do," Sparano said in remarks distributed by the team. "We have been moving players in and out, around the entire season. We had a situation where he wasn’t in there before; had to play with some of these other guys in his place and they have done a good job. I told the team that this morning.
"We have had some bumps, but the guys have responded really well. The guys who have gone in at different positions throughout the course of the season have done a great job. It is a credit to the coaches and a credit to the players.”
Sparano said his football team isn't looking for any sympathy.
“I would say you would have to ask them that, but from my end they understand it is part of the deal," Sparano said. "We are not the only team in the league that is suffering injuries right now; nobody is going to feel sorry for you.
"We are in a situation right now where we fought our tails off to put ourselves in the best situation that we can be in at this time. We got some pretty important games coming up so we are getting ready for Buffalo.”
