Elusive kick returner preparing for Pro Day Aaron Wilson
Instinctive, elusive Florida A&M All-American kicker returner LeRoy Vann wasn't invited to the NFL scouting combine.
There's still a growing buzz surrounding this sleeper from NFL teams who are eager to work him out on March 18. Here's another link to his YouTube video.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to help run the workout as well as conduct a private session with Vann, according to a league source.
San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary has called to express interest, and 20 to 25 NFL teams are expected to attend the workout.
Vann, who was featured on ESPN's College Gameday program during a segment with Desmond Howard, has been training in Atlanta and catching punts from former NFL punter Rodney Williams.
The questions about Vann are his lack of size (5-foot-9, 185 pounds) and what position he'll play.
He has played some cornerback.
Vann is expected to run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.
Vann put on a show at the HCBU all-star game, returning a punt 81 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter,
Vann returned five punts for touchdowns last season and owns the NCAA record for career return for touchdowns with 11, running back eight punts and three kickoffs for touchdowns in his career.
Vann ran back two punts for touchdowns in the Rattlers' win over Howard University. He ran back two kickoffs for touchdowns the previous week.
He was named a second-team Division I-AA All-American.
At the all-star game, Vann practiced at cornerback and wide receiver.
"I wanted to show everybody that I could play a bunch of positions," Vann said at the time. "Everybody is like, 'He is too small and he can't play this or play that.' I feel I could play anywhere you need me; prove that I can play the game of football."

I agree with Tim. Riley should have been in Canton years ago. It is not surprising to hear a story like LeRoy Vann. FAMU being a historically black university is not going to jump off the page in terms of NFL-caliber talent. A drawback in the eyes of some NFL teams is the questions about the level of competition at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). But, there is great talent displayed at these colleges and universities. Robert Mathis of the Colts attended Alabama A&M. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie of the Cardinals attended Tennessee State. Hall of Famers like Willie Davis and Mel Blount attended HBCUs. You can find talent anywhere.
No, his coach is Joe Taylor, who came to FAMU in '08 after years at fellow MEAC school Hampton. Coach Taylor has over 200 career wins and in '07 had 5 guys get invites to the NFL combine. Some of Taylors recent NFL players from Hampton include WR/KRs Jerome Mathis and Zuriel Smith, LB Justin Durant, DL Kendall Langford. Coach Riley hasn't been coach at FAMU since '93 when he resigned to become Ath. Dir.
I do hope L. Vann gets a fair opportunity to showcase his abilities.
Ken Riley was a beast I'm a huge 9ers fan but Riley was one of the most underrated players of all-time. He could hit!

Isn't his coach Ken Riley former Bengal with over 60 careeer interceptions? This kid may be a bit more polished than many think. Riley needs to be in Canton.
