Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney commented several times today on his injured right ankle, acknowledging the accuracy of multiple reports that he has a torn ligament.

The team has described it as a third-degree ankle sprain.

Apparently, Freeney didn't get the memo about that less serious diagnosis of an injury suffered during the final minutes of the AFC title game against the New York Jets.

“It’s a torn ligament in the outside part of my ankle,” Freeney said. “The ankle is pretty much day-to-day. Hopefully towards the end of the week, it starts to get better. You know, it still has a bit of swelling left, so we’ll try to get it out.”

Freeney didn't rule himself out, but said the decision isn't up to him.

"It's going to be a decision, really by the coaching staff, come Friday, maybe Saturday, how much time I’m actually going to play," Freeney said. "Obviously, the competitor in me says, ‘Ain’t nothing going to stop me from being out on that field,’ but, that being said, you don’t know where it’s going to be come game time, so I’m going to let the coaching staff and everybody collectively come up with it.”

If Freeney can't go, the Colts would start Raheem Brock in his place.
