Former Seahawks coach, GM considering taking job with Browns Aaron Wilson
Former Seattle Seahawks coach and general manager Mike Holmgren, who won a Super Bowl as the coach of the Green Bay Packers, sounds extremely interested in taking over the Cleveland Browns' football operations.
During a radio interview today with a Seattle station, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Holmgren made it seem as if the job is his to turn down or take. And it appears he's inclined to take it.
"I think I'd have a real good chance, yes,' Holmgren said when asked if he's the Browns' top choice. "I had a pretty good feeling when I left.'
Holmgren called the job "very appealing" to him and said he plans to give Browns owner Randy Lerner an answer "sooner rather than later."
Holmgren said he hasn't ruled out coaching.
And he said he has been contacted by at least one other NFL team, but not the Seahawks.
"There's not a lot of layers betweeen (him and Lerner) and it's very, very appealing from that aspect," Holmgren said. "It's a wonderful opportunity for anybody. Exactly how the setup will be regarding me, it's something I'm still thinking about.'
Holmgren declined to get specific when asked about what he would do with coach Eric Mangini if he accepts the job.
"It would be really unfair for me to talk too much about that,' Holmgren said. "I like Eric Mangini. You better give everyone a chance. This is his first year in Cleveland....Bill Parcells did it in Miami (firing Cam Cameron) his first year.
"I'd be the first one to tell you that's not very fair. Sometimes the tough decisions aren't fair. I'd do everything in my power to make sure everyone gets a chance to prove themselves.'
