INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Georgia strongman defensive tackle Jeff Owens put on a show at the NFL scouting combine today, hoisting 225 pounds 44 times.
"I can't believe I did 44 reps!!," Owens wrote on his Twitter account. "Now I have to fill the 40-yard dash. All that lifting made me hungry. What's for dinner? Today was great. Tomorrow will be even better. I wantt o thank God for all my success."
Owens was one rep shy of tying the NFL scouting combine record of 45 reps shared by Arkansas offensive guard Mitch Petrus, Mike Kudla and Leif Larsen.
The high man for the day was Georgia DT Jeff Owens, who worked the rest of the prospects into a frenzy as he did 44 repetitions. Mammoth East Carolina DT Linval Joseph was next with 39 reps, followed by Georgia DT Geno Atkins and UCLA DT Brian Price with 34 each.
Meanwhile, Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, the potential top overall pick, benched 32 reps, six more than Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
McCoy and Suh are both under consideration to be drafted first overall by the St. Louis Rams.
