The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to use the transition tag to retain kicker Jeff Reed, barring a last-minute breakthrough in contract talks prior to Thursday's NFL deadline, according to NFL.com.
Reed would cost $2.629 million on a one-year transition tender with the Steelers having the right to match any offer sheet.
Per the report, Reed is looking for similar guaranteed money to Sebastian Janikowski's Oakland Raiders deal ($9 million).
