Running back has $3 million roster bonus due next month Aaron Wilson
INDIANAPOLIS -- New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said he'll discuss Thomas Jones' outlook with the running back's agent this week at the NFL scouting combine.
During a press conference, Tannenbaum seemed to indicate that Jones could be moving on unless his contract is restructured.
Jones, 31, is due a $3 million roster bonus next month as well as a $2.8 million base salary in 2010.
With Shonn Greene's emergence and the expected return of Leon Washington, Jones could become expendable even though he rushed for 1,402 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
"No decision has been finalized and he has done a lot of great things for us for three years," Tannenbaum said. "And we will see where that goes. All I can say is we were fortunate we traded for him three years ago.
"He has done a lot of great things for us on the field and even more off the field. He's really been our leader, a tireless worker, he's a really good player and a better person. We have a few more days to get that finalized."

If Jones stays, he'll likely be a back-up a la OJ Anderson was for the Giants - a sure-handed veteran mainly for depth & protecting a 4th quarter lead. Greene and Leon Washington are both extraordinary.
