Jets might make a play for troubled Broncos receiver Aaron Wilson
Count the New York Jets as an extremely interested party in Denver Broncos suspended wide receiver Brandon Marshall, according to Newsday.
APRex Ryan's New York Jets team are reportedly a potential destination for Brandon Marshall.
Per a report from Bob Glauber, the Jets are "seriously exploring" a possible trade for Marshall, who is currently suspended for the remainder of the preseason for conduct detrimental to the team.
The Jets are looking to upgrade their receiving corps after letting Laveranues Coles leave via free agency and were considered as a potential destination for former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress until it became clear that his legal problems weren't going to allow him to play for any NFL team.
Marshall has repeatedly requested a trade and a contract extension.
In terms of trade compensation, the Broncos would probably want a first-round draft pick in exchange for Marshall.
"We tried to handle this situation with Brandon as privately and professionally as we could throughout the entire process with he and his agent, Kennard McGuire," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said when the team suspended Marshall for his unprofessional behavior at a practice, among other transgressions. "This morning, we made the decision as an organization to go ahead and suspend Brandon and that suspension will last through Sept. 5."
If any team seems liable to pull off a big trade like this one, it might be the Jets.
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum has shown a willingness to pull off blockbuster moves in the past such as acquiring quarterback Brett Favre a year ago.
