Britt pays $165,000 bond for friend Aaron Wilson
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt posted $165,000 to bail out a childhood friend who's a convicted felon.
Britt was arrested last week for outstanding warrants for traffic and parking citations.
Britt posted bond for Albert "Albee Al" Robinson, a Jersey City rapper charged with hindering the prosecution and possession of a firearm in connection with a December murder, according to the Hudson Reporter.
"Albert (Albee) and I are childhood friends and I am no way condoning any of his past actions," Britt said in a statement released through the team. "There are a number of people that I grew up with who had problems. Myself and others were fortunate enough to find our way.
"We want to try to help some of the others who have had problems and show them a way to success. I am hoping Albee can be one of those guys.
According to Hudson County prosecutor Timothy Moriarty, Robinson has been convicted twice on gun charges and has three other outstanding indictments.
In 2007, Robinson was convicted of possession of a handgun and aggravated assault for pointing a handgun with two guilty pleas resulting in him serving 18 months out of a three-year sentence in a state penitentiary.
“Everyone is entitled to post bail for someone,” Hudson County rrosecutor Edward DeFazio said. “These were legitimate funds that were presented for the defendant. Regardless of what has happened in the past, [Robinson] is still innocent until proven guilty.
“In our society, people are judged by the company they keep. It’s clear that there is a long-standing relationship between the defendant and Mr. Britt. But these charges against the defendant are very serious, one being a homicide-related incident. You can easily see what the guy is all about. A victim was shot to death in Jersey City."
Robinson remains free on bail. The Titans haven't commented on the situation.
