With veteran running back Larry Johnson serving a suspension for his controversial remarks, the Kansas City Chiefs activated running back Kolby Smith from the physically unable to perform list.

The Chiefs created a roster spot for Smith by waiving wide receiver Bobby Engram, who caught five passes for 61 yards in five games for the Chiefs. The Chiefs claimed former San Diego Chargers wide receiver Chris Chambers off waivers earlier this week.

Smith (is a 5-foot-11, 219-pounder who has started nine games with Kansas City, rushing 147 times for 507 yards  with three touchdowns and catching 32 passes for 200 yards.

He spent the final eight games of last season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury.

At Louisville, Smith carried the ball 316 times for 1,892 career yards with 18 touchdowns and 56 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns.
