Wilson: Larry Johnson to appeal suspension

In a reaction to Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson's two-week suspension levied by the team for his series of comments, the former Pro Bowl runner plans to appeal the punishment.

"We hope to get it filed tomorrow with the help of Richard Berthelsen and the NFL Players Association," said Peter Schaffer, Johnson's agent, in a telephone interview with National Football Post. "We respect the Chiefs’ right to impose discipline on their team, but it's our belief that the discipline they’ve imposed on Larry isn’t allowed under the CBA.  

"And, if it is, then it's greater than warranted by the actions. It’s our hope that we can resolve this with the team prior to the hearing. If not, then whatever the arbitrator says we will comply with it."

Under league rules governing team discipline, an independent arbitrator would be assigned to review the situation.

Johnson's suspension began immediately and isn't scheduled to be lifted until Nov. 9, the day after the Chiefs' road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Johnson issued an apology this week prior to the Chiefs' punishment.

In its announcement of Johnson's suspension tonight, the team said it will have no further comment on the matter.
