Safety Maurice Leggett was placed on injured reserve today due to a painful shoulder injury, the Kansas City Chiefs announced.

Leggett has started four games for the Chiefs over the past two seasons, appearing in 22 games.

He has registered 47 tackles, returned one interception for a touchdown and deflected nine passes.

Leggett was signed by the Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Valdosta State last season.

Since the Chiefs didn't immediately sign anyone, there's immediate speculation that they may try to put in a waiver claim on former Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Matt Roth. Roth was cut by the Dolphins on Tuesday and is subject to the waiver system.

The Cleveland Browns are another potential candidate to make a bid for Roth as well as the Detroit Lions.
