INDIANAPOLIS -- The New York Jets are planning to secure restricted free agent running back Leon Washington's services for next season with a second-round tender.

The tender will cost the Jets $1.8 million.

According to the New York Daily News, the Jets are planning to meet with Washington's agent, Alvin Keels, today at the NFL scouting combine.

Washington is recovering from a gruesome leg injury, but is expected to return in time for the regular season.

Per the report, the Jets would like to have a Shonn Greene and Washington tandem next season.

That wish, of course, hinges on Washington's health.

The Jets will release Thomas Jones and will lose Leon Washington. He's worth a 2nd round pick. The guyd does everything. They may end up with just Shonne Greene.

Three second rounders in New England, or two second rounders and a Pro Bowler to their talented backfield?

I don't see anyone, especially the Pats with their 'build from the draft' mentality, ponying up that much for Leon, particularly with the injury question hanging over his head. My money's on him staying in New York.

All I can say with certainty is that I hope Leon #29 stays. Although his injury was gruesome, orthopedists say it's much more likely to come back 100% than tearing an ACL (just heal the bone, no moving parts to worry about).
