On the heels of reports that former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is set to join the Cincinnati Bengals, coach Marvin Lewis confirmed that Johnson is slated to visit today and meet with him and running backs coach Jim Anderson.

However, Lewis downplayed the potential impact of Johnson's possible addition.

Lewis told reporters today that Johnson would be added as an insurance policy who wouldn't be active for games at first.

He said that Johnson would ned to work on special teams and on the scout team initially, ranking fourth on the depth chart.

Lewis said he spoke to Johnson last week and has had a conversation with injured leading rusher Cedric Benson.

Benson has a strained hip, but is expected to play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Johnson was cut by the Chiefs after being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team followig controversial remarks where he criticized coach Todd Haley and made anti-gay slurs directed toward reporters and fans.

Johnson has said he's misunderstood and doesn't have anger management problems.
