Browns fired George Kokinis this week Aaron Wilson
Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini indicated today that he'll be involved in the hiring process for the new general manager of the team following the ouster of George Kokinis earlier this week.
However, it was Mangini who picked Kokinis even though typically the general manager outranks the head coach.
It's unclear if owner Randy Lerner will hire a strong general manager who would want to make the decision on whether to retain Mangini or go in another direction.
Ideally, it would seem that it would be best for the Browns to go that way.
However, that hasn't been the Browns' history of late.
“Yeah, Randy and I talk a lot, so I’m sure we’ll be very engaged in that," Mangini said.
Mangini expressed confidence that the Browns can conduct business without a general manager.
Per the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kokinis wasn't being allowed to do much recently. So, nothing will essentially chance now that he has been completely removed from the equation.
“I do feel good about all the things that we have in place, in terms of the pro department, the college department, the structures, the systems there,' Mangini said. "The things mechanically, in terms of dealing with agents or transactions, I think (vice president of football administration) Dawn Aponte is excellent at those things, so I feel strongly about our ability to function effectively in all of those areas.”
Well, with the glaring exception of that 1-7 record everything is going swimmingly.
