The undefeated Denver Broncos served notice during the warmup drills prior to their victory over the San Diego Chargers that they have a new, brash personality.

The Broncos' intimidation tactics/antics included huddling near the Chargers' bench and pushing and shoving San Diego players.

“There’s a new persona about this team,” Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler said. “We feel good about ourselves and we’re going to have fun out there. We aren’t going to be pushed around.”

 From the Chargers' standpoint, they were offended.

“That was disrespectful,” Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman said. “But we get to see them again. They didn’t have a cakewalk here."

Consider the source. This coming from a guy that belittles every QB he's sacked throughout his career by creating the, 'lights out' dance. Yes, Merrimen sure has been respectful after making plays throughout his career (when he was effective and relavant).

What the hell is there to respect in a Chargers outfit that features a:

1. Hopelessly lazy defensive end/linebacker like Shawne Merriman with six solo tackles, seven assists, and ZERO sacks in five games - IN HIS CONTRACT YEAR ????;

2. Head coach like Norv Turner that is a perennial loser and failure at the top job?; and,

3. Roster that has again stumbled out of the blocks, finds itself 3.5 games behind in the overall standings and three games back in both the loss column and AFC record to the Broncos?

Spanos dumps $2.4 million on the Conservatives and this is the bunch of bums that he gets in San Diego? Why not just hire Dick Cheney and make the embarrassment complete?

agree on merriman. his lights out dance is about as stupid as it gets. beyond that, it was startling to see how much explosion he's lost. just a guy at this point.

Apparently Mr. Merriman wasn't watching the same second half of that game that I was.

If his team felt so "disrespected" during the warm ups, they probably should have done something on the field to prove they deserve to be respected.

Mark-
And just what does Alex Spanos spending money on any political party have anything to do with respect or disresepct between football players? Besides being way off topic it brings nothing redemptive to the conversation.

Anytime you can go 6-0 it says something but lets be real here, the Denver Bronco's look to be a good team but they still have played nobody. They all talk up the Chargers but they have done little the past few years and are not a very good team this year. Dallas?, come on give me a brake and the others would have trouble in Pop Warner.

We will now see if they really are for real with the teams that are coming up the next couple weeks and my guess is they loose their next two. If not for the 14 points that they got off the returns for TD's they scored 20 points on the Chargers.

And with 6 games of film on them now the better DC and OC will have more to work with in shutting them down. They look pretty good but are not world beaters by a long shot. Oh and the Pats?, they are a shell of their former self.

Hey, Diana!! Wake up!! Unbeaten is unbeaten. Even the Raiders won and beat a good team.
This is the NFL, where the cliche is true-anyone can beat anyone on any given day. This is
typical though. Denver didn't even get the respect they deserve for winning back to back
Super Bowls ten years ago. The one thing I regret is that I live around a bunch of tired
Charger fans who jumped off their bandwagon when they lost their first game.

@ Diana - you're a riot! The Ravens are 3-3. I assume if the Broncos beat the Ravens (not at all assured) you will come on here and say they haven't played anyone yet and that we should wait until they play the Steelers and Giants, etc., etc. Keep on doubting. The Broncos will likely lose some games this year but the denial from some is amazing. By the way, I like the matchups with both the Ravens and the Steelers. The Ravens have always been a bad team for the Broncos but McDaniels has a bye week to prepare which is huge for the Broncos. The Steelers have not played that well on the road and their offensive line is porous. Getting Troy P. back is big for them, however. Last thing, the Broncos just need to go .500 the rest of the way to win 11. Even 4-6 probably secures the AFC West.

Where is Yahoo Dave? He was hating on McDaniels all preseason. Nowhere to be found.

The Chargers are the most obnoxious team in the league. When they win, they taunt the opposition (see Rivers taunting Cutler, Merriman's Lights-Out dance). When they lose, they whine about the other team's sportsmanship (see Merriman & Tomlinson bitching about the Pats a few years back, this example). Maybe if they focused more on playing, and less on being "disrespected", they wouldn't be such perennial underachievers.

Merriman has made the same comments multiple times after losses to the Patriots. It's really an odd perspective because in his mind, it's fine to do a dance each time you tackle someone - and that's apparently classy and professional, even in a losing effort. On the other hand any type of celebration by the opposing team is unprofessional and disrespectful. I am sure that distinction makes sense to him but it's completely hypocritical to anyone else. And why is it that San Diego is constantly complaining about not getting proper respect. Each year they are ranked highly in the preseason only to fall short of expectations. This has been going on for years now. One way to earn the respect Shawn, win games and championships. Respect does not come from a haircut or a dance routine, at least not in football.

You know what else was disrespectful? Strangling Tila Tequila.

You know what else was disrespectful? Cheating on the rest of the players in the NFL by using steroids.

Merriman should just shut up now. He's washed up.

They've played the dregs in Oakland and Cleveland.
They've played some teams with talent who can't get it together: Dallas, San Diego, Cincy.
And they played NE.
They're 6-0 and if you look at that schedule, most people would have predicted 2-4.

I think you're forgetting a little outfit from up around Boston Diana, maybe you've heard of them? Coach is a grumpy guy. Fond of sweatshirts. Won a few superbowls the past decade. This ringing any bells?

To Mark;
For your info Spanos is a notorious left-wing liberal and wouldn't pee on a conservative if said conservative were on fire. That could be further explanation for ya son-son! You can't be clueless and beliveable at the same time. Try again.
