Former NFL player still facing civil lawsuit Aaron Wilson
Although former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin is still contending with a civil lawsuit alleging that he raped a woman three years ago at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in South Florida, he has cleared a much more significant legal hurdle.
Prosecutors announced today that they will not be filing criminal rape charges against the Hall of Fame player and NFL Network analyst.
The woman signed a waiver of prosecution after making allegations weeks after the alleged incident.
Irvin's lawyer, Larry Friedman, has stated that the woman's attorney demanded $1 million to not file a lawsuit during the Super Bowl week.
The woman alleged that Irvin got her drunk and took her to his hotel room. In her civil lawsuit, she claimed that Irvin raped her and an unidentified man forced her to perform oral sex.
He characterized the lawsuit as "civil extortion," and has denied the charges on Irvin's behalf.
Plus, Irvin has filed a $100 million countersuit alleging civil extortion and defamation.
Irvin was fired from his ESPN affiliate radio show in Dallas, but that was apparently going to happen anyway due to low ratings.
He has retained his NFL Network position.
There was no immediate comment from Irvin or his legal representation.
