Ochocinco wants to honor Chris Henry's memory Aaron Wilson
The NFL Players Association said today that it will pay any fines assessed to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco from the NFL if he wears Chris Henry's No. 15 jersey on Sunday.
Ochocinco wants to honor Henry's memory in the wake of Henry's tragic death from injuries suffered in a car accident.
However, the NFL has already said that Ochocinco isn't allowed to do so.
George Atallah, the NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs, wrote on his Twitter account today that: "NFLPA will cover any fine levied on @OGOchoCinco imposed by the league and match it with a gift to our Chris Henry memorial fund."
According to NFL rules, though, the player is solely responsible for paying their own fine and it's deducted from their game checks.
It's unclear where the Bengals stand on this one, but they would likely follow the league's edict.
So, the NFLPA's comment might essentially be an empty public relations statement since Ochocinco is unlikely to be allowed to wear No. 15 this weekend.
Should Ochocinco be allowed to wear the jersey?
I don't see why not, but the Bengals are already honoring his memory as a team with helmet decals of No. 15 and lapel pins for the coaching staff.
