The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially promoted quarterback Tyler Palko from the practice squad to the active roster, his agent confirmed.
Palko was signed by the Steelers on Wednesday after he cleared waivers from the CFL's Montreal Alouettes.
Ben Roethlisberger is not expected to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night due to concerns about concussion symptoms.
So, Dennis Dixon will make his first NFL start and Palko will back him up.
Palko originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent after playing collegiately at Pitt.
Palko takes over the roster spot created when veteran wide receiver Shaun McDonald was released today.
Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch is out for several weeks with a left wrist injury.
